Michigan Democrat Gary Peters was talking about climate change when he was behind in his Senate race, and plans to continue talking climate now that he holds an average six-point lead in the polls, the Washington Post reported last week. The Democrats’ internal polls show that 45% of voters see climate change as an urgent problem, another 13% consider it a problem to be addressed in the years ahead, and 39% would be less likely to elect a climate denier. The research also shows strong negatives for renowned denial funders Charles and David Koch: 56% of voters have heard of them, and those who have mistrust them by just over a 2:1 margin. Sargent asks: “Is it possible that in this particular race, climate change and the Koch brothers—whose group, Americans for Prosperity, has spent millions bludgeoning Peters over Obamacare—are hurting the Republican candidate?”
