Green finance and climate resilience are among the top priorities Fiji will bring to the table as chair of this year’s United Nations climate conference, November 6-17 in Bonn, Germany.

We are all vulnerable and we all need to act,” Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama told representatives of 140 countries at the close of mid-year climate negotiations last week. He said COP 23 would set the stage for “a grand coalition to accelerate climate action before 2020 and beyond between civil society, the scientific community, the private sector, and all levels of government, including cities and regions.”

Bainimarama stressed the need to support a 1.5°C long-term limit on average global warming by “harnessing innovation, enterprise, and investment to fast track the development and deployment of climate solutions that will build future economies with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.”
