Republican candidates were the biggest winners when the U.S. solar and wind industries divvied up their donations in the 2016 election cycle, according to Reuters.
“Wind and solar industry political action committees contributed more than $225,000 to Republican candidates for office, compared with $185,000 for Democrats,” the news agency reports, citing federal campaign disclosures.

“The numbers are not large by the standards of political donations, but they mark the first time the industry has tilted its contributions toward Republicans, according to federal records.”
The recipients included 19 Senate and 34 House Republicans. “The industry is now hoping its strategy will pay off in the form of congressional support” against the possibility that Trump, a climate change denier, will take a budget axe to solar and wind subsidies, Reuters states.
