The White House released a one-year progress report in early July, tracking steps the U.S. has taken to combat climate change since President Obama’s signature speech at Georgetown University in 2013. In this post, NRDC’s David Doniger points to two of those actions. A new energy efficiency standard for furnace fans could save as much electricity as 47 million homes consume in a year. And an Environmental Protection Agency announcement last week paves the way for a new generation of climate-friendlier refrigerants. Doniger adds: “The Climate Action Plan, with its target of reducing our emissions 17% below 2005 levels by 2020, has helped the U.S. establish a measure of credibility with China, Europe, and the world’s other big polluters.”
