China’s Yingli Green Energy has become the third manufacturer to post photovoltaic module production costs below 50 cents per watt. “Pushing beyond the 50-cents-per-watt cost barrier allows firms to capture greater margin and provides a means to offset volatile OEM costs, high polysilicon prices, and aggressively priced regional end markets,” said GTM Research analyst Jade Jones. The September edition of GTM’s PV Pulse reported manufacturing costs per watt of 49 cents for Yingli, 48 cents for Trina Solar, and 47 cents for Jinko Solar.
