100 editions. 1,184 posts (and counting). In the 10 months since The Energy Mix first appeared, we’ve had a chance to watch and help tell the story of a rapid transformation of the world’s energy systems.
When we launched last May 8, oil prices were still in the range of $100 per barrel. The U.S. Clean Power Plan had not yet been released. The China-U.S. climate deal was still more than half a year away. And no one would have expected that a massive march in New York City in September, followed by a partial win during climate negotiations in Lima at year’s end, would set the stage for a potentially historic global deal in Paris at the end of this year.

- A brand new weekly digest containing exclusive and essential climate stories from around the world.
- The Weekender:The climate news you need.
We wanted The Energy Mix to serve and bring together two communities: the committed, tireless, frighteningly knowledgeable content producers whose material crosses our desks every day, and the front-line climate and energy educators, researchers, and advocates who don’t have time to scan 300 or more headlines per week. (That’s our best guess at the workload.) We hope we’re succeeding. The testimonials we’ve received for Edition #100 give us all the motivation we need to keep going.
“The Energy Mix represents the ‘next generation’ energy information service,” writes low-carbon analyst Ralph Torrie. “It provides concise, linked summaries of key developments in energy technologies, policies, and business. But beyond that, there is a context to The Energy Mix that makes it stand out from other current awareness services. Items are both selected for and summarized with an eye on their importance to the historic global energy transition that is under way. That’s why I open and read The Energy Mix when it arrives, not just for the information, but for the added value.”
“Energy Mix is my go-to news source for climate change,” writes energy and development specialist Diane Beckett. “Its curated content identifies the most salient sources for the must-know big stories, as well as the less well-known but cutting-edge issues. The Energy Mix‘s summaries of the articles are comprehensive but mercifully brief, with easy links to the originals.”
“I read every issue of The Energy Mix because it provides carefully screened, concise, widely-sourced, and timely briefs on a comprehensive range of energy and climate change issues,” adds Gary Martin, a teacher, researcher, and writer on climate change and urban development. “The digest is a vital resource for me to quickly keep updated on current news.”
