Carney’s purpose for the Investment Summit is to attract large sums of international financing, diversify Canada’s trade, and protect the country’s sovereignty in response to a formerly reliable trading partner. There are many voices in the energy transition community that appreciate and support that mission.

That’s why there’s been such a robust conversation about “nation-building, not nation-burning” projects—the resources and infrastructure that Canada can mobilize for projects that will bring the country together and build community, rather than feeding polarization and driving us farther apart.

Some of those projects, but not nearly all of them, would clear the summit’s $200-million minimum threshold.

Most of them won’t likely be at the table when the summit convenes.

So Energy Mix Productions will help bridge the gap.

We’ll bring together the ideas, the opportunities, and the beginnings of the financial flows that will:

• Bring steady, lasting economic development to Canadian communities;

• Help establish Canada’s place in a low-carbon economy that is surging into existence in most parts of the world outside North America;

• Support projects that respond to multiple problems at once—delivering jobs and training for good, steady work that speeds up the energy transition, makes life healthier and more affordable, builds domestic supply chains, and helps local communities take charge of their economic future, all while driving down the greenhouse gas emissions that are super-charging the global climate crisis;

• Strengthen social enterprise models like co-ops and employee ownership that can deliver on a wider menu of low-carbon opportunities;

And in all of those ways…

• Build a shared sense of optimism, opportunity, and unity that brings the country closer together, rather than setting communities and regions against each other.
