TREATING IT LIKE A DAMN EMERGENCY
From the moment you first laid eyes on The Energy Mix, we hope you’ve known the basics—we produce our digest and online archive as a free community service, and we’re here to chase the news, not chase dollars.
That’s still true. It always will be. But we’ve also taken a closer look at the different pay-what-you-can options for publications like ours.
Until recently, The Mix was funded entirely by its parent company, Smarter Shift. That doesn’t include the personal time our publisher puts into the publication at no cost.
We’re thrilled to be able to do what we do. We don’t plan to stop or scale back. And if we had decades to get climate change under control, we’d be happy to continue calling ourselves (and operating as) an “extreme non-profit”.
But that’s not the world we live in. We know that this is the decade when we all have to do everything we can to drive faster, deeper emissions cuts.
When we have to “treat it like a damn emergency”.
If there’s anything more that any of us can do to support effective climate action, it isn’t optional. It’s a matter of duty.
So we’re reaching out for new sources of funding to deliver all the additional services we know The Mix can offer. We’re introducing special features, new content formats, and news analyses and investigations that will help the fight to get the climate crisis under control. And we’re running an ambitious campaign to expand our audience and extend our reach, so that every story we publish has more impact.
The increase in funding isn’t happening overnight (and we’re fine with that). But we’ve heard from dozens of readers who want to support our work through optional one-time or regular donations.
So this Donate page is one tool in a toolbox of options to bring new dollars into The Energy Mix. We’ve also introduced a pay-what-you-can option for monthly or annual subscribers.
Your generous support as an Energy Mix reader means the world to us. You’re the reason we do what we do. We hope you will consider paying what you can to support our work.
