In the North Atlantic Ocean south of Greenland and Iceland, the ice surface has seen very cold temperatures for the past eight months, creating an unusual “blob” in global ocean temperature percentile charts. A fear, according to climate researchers, is that this “blob” is proof of the slowing of the Atlantic Ocean circulation and freshwater melting. According to the Washington Post, the fresh water could be traced to Greenland, which is now losing billions of tons of ice each year from melting.
