In a guest post on Energy and Carbon, Thomas Kercher, the CEO of PfalzSola explains just how and why Germany is poised for a “solar revolution.” The German energy market’s current design costs of the grid are divided and therefore not suitable for a huge increase in solar produced electricity. The smaller the distribution of power from the grid, the higher the allocated costs for the remaining kilowatt hours. Now, grid operators are looking at transitioning to provide prices in relation to provided power input. This will enable a range of new business services and heavily promote the use of batteries. Kercher says, “sealing off the markets by means of laws and regulations cannot stop the development of solar–it can only slow it down.”
