A campaign by Minnesota-based nonprofit Fresh Energy encouraged developers of utility-scale solar projects to plant their land with wildflowers and native grasses as an alternative to gravel or dirt. According to Fresh Energy, using just one 2,500-acre solar field is equivalent to planting 750,000 12’x12’ backyard pollinator gardens.
