The Green Energy Coalition is leading the charge against an Ontario Energy Board proposal to charge householders a fixed rate for electricity, however much power they use. “It is Robin Hood in reverse,” the Coalition states. “A 100% fixed charge for electricity distribution rates will undermine the Conservation First agenda, reducing CDM [conservation and demand management] effectiveness and/or increase its costs of delivery, and unfairly subsidize larger, wealthier customers at the expense of smaller, less affluent ratepayers.” Coalition members include the David Suzuki Foundation, Greenpeace Canada, the Sierra Club Canada Foundation, and WWF-Canada.
