Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB) is planning province-by-province hearings next year to learn what Canadians really think about oil and gas pipelines.
Beginning early next year, NEB Chair Peter Watson and other board members and staff “will visit every province and the North to hear from Canadians on how the Board can improve its pipeline safety program,” GLOBE-Net reported last week.
“In order for us to achieve our mandate, we need to better understand what Canadians are thinking when it comes to pipeline safety and environmental protection,” Watson told the St. John, New Brunswick Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to opening an online forum, the NEB “intends to meet directly with interested groups, including municipal and provincial leaders and staff, Aboriginal organizations, environmental groups, first responders and academics, as well as professional and industry organizations, to discuss pipeline safety and environmental protection,” according to a release.
