Missouri joins a couple of other states, including New Jersey, in trying to restrict retail sales of Tesla’s popular, market-disrupting electric vehicles. “This is worse than a mere case of dealers trying to protect an existing monopoly,” Tesla responded. “This is a case of dealers trying to create a monopoly.” In New Jersey, the law that was used to ban the upstart automaker was originally enacted in the 1950s or 60s, when auto dealers needed protection against predatory manufacturers.
