Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat will be the home of a 4.2-gigawatt wind and solar park, with construction set to begin by the end of the year, Renewable Energy World reports.
SJVN Ltd., a company based in Shimla in northern India, will build the first gigawatt of capacity over the next three years at a cost of 65 billion rupees (US$1.05 billion), 75% of which will be funded through debt. Executive Director R.K. Agarwal said private developers may be invited to participate in the second phase of the project.

Last month, global solar company SunEdison announced a $4-billion, 7.5-gigawatt-per-year solar manufacturing facility that will create 4,500 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs in Gujarat.
