Glasgow University has become the first academic institution in Europe to decide to divest its fossil fuel holdings, EcoWatch reported earlier this month.
“This is a victory for the student-led Glasgow University Climate Action Society,” Pantsios wrote. The University of Glasgow Court voted to divest £18 million (about US$29 million) over the next 10 years, and freeze further fossil investments from its £128 million endowment, “after a year-long campaign involving more than 1,300 students, freedom of information requests, rallies, flash mobs, fake oil spills, and banner drops.”
