The Group of Seven (G7) nations expressed their “strong determination” last week to reach global agreement on a plan to limit global warming to 2°C above pre-industrial levels. Driven in part by U.S. moves on power plant emissions, and by indications that China would cap its carbon pollution, the G7 committed to a deal that is “ambitious, inclusive, and reflects changing global circumstances,” Reuters reported. The governments of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States will announce national targets by the first quarter of next year, ahead of the 21st Conference of the Parties in Paris in December 2015.
