France has doubled the procurement target for its latest renewable electricity auction from 400 to 800 megawatts of capacity, partly in response to falling prices that made solar generation competitive with wind, CleanTechnica reported last week.
The French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy offered feed-in tariff prices of €129 per megawatt-hour for large rooftop solar projects and €124/MWh for ground-mounted systems for more than 200 successful projects.

France currently produces 75% of its electricity from nuclear generation, but CleanTechnica reports that total could fall to 50% by 2025, and that 100% of the country’s electricity could be drawn from renewable sources by 2050. Environment Minister Ségolène Royal said the “green sector” could produce 100,000 new jobs over the next three years.
