The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released a final rule that adds new pathways for cellulosic biofuels to meet greenhouse gas reduction requirements in the National Renewable Fuel Standard. The rule permits renewable fuel credits for transportation fuels derived from biogas harvested from landfills, wastewater treatment plants, agricultural digesters, and municipal solid waste. “These pathways have the potential to provide notable volumes of cellulosic biofuel for use in complying with the RFS program, since significant volumes of advanced biofuels are already being generated for fuel made from biogas,” the agency states.(h/t Clarke Pauley, CR&R, Inc., via LinkedIn)
