The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has received recommendations for reaching an ambitious regional target of 48% renewable energy generation by 2027 in a report from the Worldwatch Institute. The report also suggests a 33% reduction in the region’s energy intensity. Caribbean governments are increasingly aware of the enormous financial, environmental, and social costs associated with continued dependence on fossil fuels, and currently spend a sizable amount of their GDP importing fossil fuels.
