Climate change and the transition off fossil fuels are emerging as top-tier issues in the federal election coming up this fall. And between now and October 21, The Energy Mix has got you covered.

Today, we’re proud to launch Canada’s Climate Change Election 2019, a special report where we will consolidate the news and opinion that will shape the next four years on the single biggest issue the country faces.

We’ll keep updating the page right up to Election Day, with breaking news and feature reporting on Canada’s climate action gap, political party campaigns and platforms, public opinion, the continuing contention on carbon pricing, fossil and pipeline politics, climate impacts and adaptation, and the practicalities of the off-carbon transition.

We’re opening the special report page now, to give you a chance to read in before the news deluge hits in the summer and early fall. Once it does, we hope you’ll bookmark the page and come back often for the latest updates.

The Energy Mix special reports are set up to help readers get at the bigger-picture trends behind the stories we produce each week. We scan our own archive (you can do that, too!) for content that backgrounds a major energy or climate issue, then organize it thematically to help you make sense of the daily news as it breaks. Past special reports have touched on Alberta’s bitumen pipe dreams, carbon farming, city and sub-national climate action, the drive to 1.5°C as a climate stabilization target, and the main climate trends and issues that made news in 2018.

Please do not be like every other media outlet and leave the Green Party out of reports on Climate Crisis. They are the only party to already have a plan in place to really address the crisis. They also have the only leader Canadians trust to implement the drastic measures required to be effective in the short time we have left to act!

Thanks, Susan. If you scan through the special report, I think you’ll see that we’ve included the Greens in the coverage…but unlike a couple of other news outlets and columnists I’ve seen so far, we aren’t giving them any more of a free pass than any other party. Credit where due, without doubt. But they still see Canadian fossil feedstocks supplying plastic and petrochemical operations beyond 2050…which means they’re supporting the fossil industry’s last survival strategy, rather than committing to keep that carbon in the ground and complete a managed transition for the fossil work force by mid-century.
