Canada’s clean energy industries generated more direct employment in 2012 than the tar sands/oil sands, Clean Energy Canada reported today.
Clean energy produces 23,700 jobs, according to CEC’s analysis of Analytica Advisors’ Canadian Clean Technology Industry Report, compared to 22,340 in diluted bitumen, reported by the Petroleum Human Resources Council.

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers routinely claims higher job creation numbers for the tar sands/oil sands, which only account for 0.2% of Canadian employment and 2% of GDP. CAPP derives the higher number by taking credit for indirect as well as direct employment, a feint that would drive up clean energy’s numbers, as well.
