Masdar, Kyrgyzstan Sign Deal for 1 GW of New Renewables

Masdar has signed an agreement to build up to a gigawatt of new renewable energy projects in Kyrgyzstan.

Project options under the deal could include ground-mounted and floating solar photovoltaic systems and hydropower, Renewables Now reports.

Kyrgyzstan gets about 90% of its electricity from low-carbon sources, but relies heavily on aging hydro facilities, the news story states. The investment by Masdar, also known as the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, “is expected to back Kyrgyzstan in achieving its goal for a 44% reduction of its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.”
