Swedish state power company Vattenfall is beginning installation on the world’s biggest subsidy-free wind farm, the 1.5 GW Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.
The project will use 11-megawatt turbines built by Siemens Gamesa, offshoreWIND.biz reports.
The units are “the largest and the most powerful commercial wind turbines to be installed on any wind farm in the world,” the news brief states, and the wind farm itself will be the biggest anywhere once it’s commissioned in summer 2023.
