West Virginia Coal Mine Closure Costs 400 Jobs

Another 400 West Virginians are set to lose their jobs with the closure of Mission Coal’s Pinnacle Mine in Wyoming County, WV.

A news report says the mine will be shuttered after an attempt to sell it fell through.

“The mine is the largest employer in Wyoming County after the school system,” the Associated Press reports. “Workers were moving equipment out of the mine this week, a sure sign of its imminent closure.”

Governor Jim Justice said he hoped the mine “has not seen its last days,” adding that “it’s not a good day.”
