IKEA UK is teaming up with London-based Solarcentury to offer home solar+storage packages beginning at £6,925 (US$9,157).
“With energy bills already going up 15% this year, there’s never been a better time for customers to take back control of their electricity bills and maximize their savings by switching to solar and solar storage,” said Hege Saebjornsen, IKEA’s country sustainability manager for the UK and Ireland. “We know that our customers want to live more sustainably, and together with Solarcentury we will help them to get more value from their solar panels and do just that.”

“Battery storage is set to completely revolutionize the home energy market, with solar homeowners now able to maximize the amount of solar-generated electricity they can store and use in their own homes,” added Susannah Wood, Solarcentury’s head of residential solar.
“Ikea claims its new panel and battery system boosts the amount of solar electricity an average home can use to 80%, resulting in as much as 70% off their energy bills,” Alphr reports. “The addition of batteries is aimed at making further cost savings, as solar homes in the UK typically only consume around 40% of the electricity they generate while the rest goes back to the national grid.”
The project will also offer retrofit batteries for as little as £5,000 (US$6,612). Participating customers will receive a 3.3-kWh LG Chem battery.
