
The U.S. biofuels lobby is teaming up with Big Oil to take on a common threat, in the form of subsidies that are accelerating the growth of electric vehicles.
“The two industries have been at loggerheads for years as they seek sway with Washington over how much biofuel should be included in gasoline and diesel,” Reuters reports. “But that enmity is thawing as the growing number of electric cars on the road threatens to cut demand for both renewable and conventional fuels.”

“We want to make sure there’s a level playing field,” said Renewable Fuels Association President Bob Dinneen. “Our objectives will align more times than not,” he told two fossil panelists last month, during his organization’s annual conference.
“We should be working to promote the longevity of the internal combustion engine,” said Chet Thompson, president of American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers. “The group welcomes RFA and others pointing out what he described as ‘inequities’ in the support the electric vehicle industry receives,” Reuters reports.
