In a canny use of space, South Korea has turned that barren strip between the vehicle lanes in a highway to better use: sheltering cyclists and generating electricity.
The dedicated bikeway is separated from car traffic running on three lanes to either side, and shaded by solar panels. It runs through rice fields and hills for some 32 kilometres between the cities of Daejeon and Sejong, south of Seoul. Check out this video on Youtube for an aerial view of the innovative installation.
