Satya Das, a Canadian policy analyst and journalist, and Professor Ramprasad Sengupta, India’s leading energy economist, developed the “next big idea” for Alberta to significantly reduce its greenhouse gas

emissions. The paper offers a practical illustration of creating an Alberta-led Commonwealth Climate Fund. “This would help leverage hydrocarbon energy revenues to lead the transition to low-carbon renewable energies,” says Das. Essentially, “Alberta can launch the fund to convert the resource rent from fossil fuels into new assets of renewable energies, in an all-of-the-above energy strategy.”
