As pipeline proposals stagnate, crude-by-rail projects in the U.S. are on the rise with increasing resistance. Big environmental organizations and small community groups are fighting a variety of rail projects in the region. Matt Krogh, a ForestEthics campaigner based in Washington state said, “There’s some real cognitive dissonance around allowing the expansion of a dirty and polluting industry in your backyard that makes no long-term economic sense.”
