The EPA and U.S. Transportation Department introduced fuel-economy standards earlier this month that would mandate efficiency gains in engines and transmissions for heavy-duty truck companies like Cummins Inc. and Eaton Corp. The regulations are intended to encourage the development of new technologies and the replacement of engines. Tom Linebarger, Cummins Inc. chair and chief executive officer said, “It will help our industry grow in a more sustainable way, which is a win for our customers and win for the environment.”
