Medicine Hat, Alberta Builds Canada’s First Concentrating Solar Plant

Medicine Hat, Alberta, known as Canada’s “Gas City”, is about to become the home of the country’s first and the world’s most northerly concentrating solar (CSP) development.

The $10-million, one-megawatt project “is part of a larger municipal renewable energy push and comes on the heels of another recently completed green energy project—wind turbines constructed within the city limits,” Clean Capital reported yesterday. “While the focus on renewable energy is a change of direction for Medicine Hat, a city that has a century-long history in natural gas, the city has committed itself to achieving the goal of relying on renewable energy for 25% of its electricity by 2025.”
