Funding problems have forced Alberta’s Wood Buffalo Environmental Association to shut down a mobile testing unit that monitored air quality in the area surrounding the province’s tar sands/oil sands operations.
“Association director Kevin Percy says the vehicle’s roof leaks and its electrical system can no longer run its delicate sensing equipment,” Global News reports. “He says that means there’s no way to monitor air quality during environmental emergencies or to respond quickly to community concerns.”
