The U.S. coal industry is trying to convince regulators and citizens the country will freeze in the dark as a result of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan.
“It’s time to expose these regulations for what they are before Americans are left #ColdInTheDark, without the low-cost, dependable power we need, when we need it the most,” claims the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity.

The Coalition was bringing its campaign to the annual conference of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners in Washington, DC yesterday, with “plans to deploy street teams wearing sandwich board signs outside,” Politico Morning Energy reported. “ACCCE says it plans to take its parade to [Federal Energy Regulatory Commission] headquarters this Thursday when the agency holds a technical conference discussing reliability, market, and infrastructure aspects of the draft EPA carbon regs.”
No word on whether the Coalition planned to discuss the plight of Paducah, Kentucky, the small town that was recently slammed by the state’s highest electricity rates courtesy of an Illinois coal utility.
