In a Black Friday essay last week, Climate Progress Founding Editor Joe Romm points to the “orgiastic celebration of unbridled consumerism” as a factor driving global greenhouse gas emissions.
“We cannot stop catastrophic climate change in the long term—and possibly even the medium term—without a pretty dramatic change to our overconsumption-based economic system,” Romm writes. “We have already overshot the Earth’s biocapacity—and the overshoot gets worse every year.”
