Minnesota to Generate Solar Power and Revenue Along Highway Rights-of-Way

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is looking for vendors to build and manage solar arrays on public rights-of-way along the state’s highways, supplying clean, reliable electricity to the state’s grid for at least 20 years.

The project “could result in up to five megawatts of power installed along local highways within the next few years,” Kaye writes. “That is, of course, provided there is an optimal amount of space along south-facing highway embankments.”

Minnesota is looking to generate new revenues along public rights-of-way, and the “unused space, seen as undesirable by just about everyone else, is now ripe for solar panels,” he notes. (h/t to Bryndon Kydd for pointing us to this story)
