Hawken Proposes Path to Drawing Down Greenhouse Gases

October 31, 2014
Reading time: 1 minute

Renowned Natural Capitalism author Paul Hawken is launching a project and has published a book suggesting a pathway to drawing down atmospheric greenhouse gases to address climate change.

“You read that right,” wrote GreenBiz publisher Joel Makower: “to reduce, not just stabilize, atmospheric CO2 and other gases, in order to reverse rising global temperatures.”

In an interview with The Guardian’s Marc Gunther, Hawken commented that “Drawdown is about technologies and solutions that are in place, understood, measured, documented, and growing. This is a path to opportunity and wellbeing, as opposed to a tax or a loss.”

“It is not game over. It is, in fact, game on,” a participant tweeted during the Greenbuild conference earlier this month, where Hawken released his book. “It marks the beginning of a new world, not the end.” “The transformation required by climate change marks the beginning of a new world,” another participant added.
