Methane emissions could be the “next big environmental issue” for oil and gas operators in North Dakota, according to the chief of the state’s environmental health section.
With federal methane regulations on the horizon, “it’s probably prudent to take a look at this and see what we can do voluntarily,” Dave Glatt said last week. “Just paying some attention to detail, mak[ing] sure valves and hatches are closed and that combustors on flares are operating, will reduce a lot of that on the operational end.”
