New Software Tool Could Cut Utilities’ Solar Admin Costs By 65%

A new software-as-a-service tool, introduced last week by Clean Power Research, aims to cut the high administrative costs associated with connecting solar cells to the power grid.

The company says PowerClerk Interconnect can cut utilities’ incentive admin costs by up to 65%.

“Interconnection costs hit a number of players,” Pyper explains. “They affect installers, the host customers, and utilities. Even as the hardware costs of solar projects have declined, soft costs like customer acquisition, financing, permitting, interconnection, and installation have become higher. According to the Department of Energy, non-hardware elements make up as much as 64% of total solar system cost.”
