Biomass Supplies 60% of Global Renewable Energy in IRENA’s 2030 Scenario

Biomass could supply 60% of the world’s renewable energy and 20% of its electricity by 2030, according to a new report by the UAE-based International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

“The key here is in the use of ‘sustainably sourced’ resources,” Font writes. “According to suggestions within the report, 40% of biomass supply would originate from ‘agricultural residues and waste.’ Energy crops and forest products would account for the remaining supply potential.”
