The United States will train at least 50,000 solar installers over the next six years, and much of the training will be directed to veterans, President Barack Obama announced in mid-September. “The jobs training program is among a host of initiatives the White House says will cut carbon dioxide emissions by more than 300 million tons through 2030, plus save billions of dollars on energy bills for homeowners and businesses,” AP reports. A package of executive orders in advance of the UN Climate Summit September 23 also included $70 million for 540 farm and rural renewable energy projects, as well as new energy efficiency standards for commercial air conditioners.
