Google and Facebook will likely withdraw from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) because of its model legislation to slow climate action and clean energy adoption, with Google Executive Chair Eric Schmidt calling ALEC out for spreading lies. “Everyone understands climate change is occurring, and the people who oppose it are really hurting our children and our grandchildren and making the world a much worse place,” Schmidt told National Public Radio host Diane Rehm. “We should not be aligned with such people. They’re just, they’re just literally lying.” Forecast The Facts responded immediately with a fundraising page that features the word ‘Victory!’ in Google’s blue-gold-red-green motif, along with a petition thanking Schmidt for the company’s decision.
