Clean Energy Canada Report Tracks Global ‘Energy Revolution’

Clean Energy Canada is “tracking the energy revolution” with an 18-page graphical report on the worldwide advance to a low-carbon future. In the report, released September 21 ahead of the UN Climate Summit in New York, CEC notes that 144 countries and 60% of Fortune 100 companies now have renewable energy targets, investors around the world directed $207 billion to clean energy projects in 2013, 6.5 million people around the world work in the renewable energy industries and, for the first time last year, China invested more money in new clean energy capacity than in coal plants. With renewable energy prices plummeting, CEC’s Merran Smith told the Globe and Mail that subsidies are far less important to the industry, and are being eliminated in many jurisdictions. “Renewables can compete with fossil fuel,” she said, “and that is only going to become increasingly so.”
