Climate denier Roger Pielke, Jr.’s departure as a correspondent for FiveThirtyEight.com, Nate Silver’s avowedly data-driven election analysis site, had Forecast the Facts Campaign Director Brant Olson declaring victory late last month. “It’s not clear why Pielke, Jr. is no longer writing for FiveThirtyEight, but it’s been well documented that he has a long track record of misrepresenting the facts about climate change while attacking the character of climate scientists,” Olson wrote. “Pielke’s writing on climate change represents exactly the kind of ‘incautious reasoning’ in journalism that FiveThirtyEight set out to change.” Forecast the Facts had previously run a petition protesting Silver’s decision to hire Pielke, Jr., arguing that “with time running out to act, we can’t allow tricksters like Pielke to go unchecked.”
