After failing to deliver on many of its carbon reduction commitments over the last seven years, Ontario has lost its national leadership position on the climate change file, Environmental Commissioner Gord Miller reported in mid-July. Although the province recently phased out the last of its coal-fired electricity plants, progress in other areas has been limited. “The 2007 Action Plan said the government would reduce transportation emissions by 19 megatonnes by 2020,” Miler said. “That goal, unfortunately, has now been cut by almost 80%. I have been given no reason why, and no explanation about what the Ontario government plans to do instead.” (h/t to Jenelle Ross for pointing us to this story)
