With a $280-million annual budget, and 291 completed projects over the last five years, the U.S. Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) is working toward a vision of a future electricity grid “that is decentralized, resilient, and less carbon-heavy,” Fast Company reports. “We’re trying to take really crazy ideas…and we get it from the impossible to the plausible,” said Acting Director Cheryl Martin. “We’ve taken the idea of taking big chances from being unacceptable to acceptable.”
