With six days before their funding appeal closed, Sagle, Idaho-based Scott and Julie Brusaw had exceeded the $1 million Indiegogo goal they’d set for their Solar Roadways project, raising almost $1.24 million from 29,255 funders and drawing a wave of traditional and social media coverage. “Solar Roadways is a modular paving system of solar panels that can withstand the heaviest of trucks (250,000 pounds),” the Brusaws explain on their Indiegogo page. The panels save enough conventional energy to pay for installation, and “a nationwide system could produce more clean renewable energy than a country uses as a whole.”
