The new Skylock smart bike lock by Velo Labs features theft and crash alerts, keyless entry, and the possibility of Airbnb-style bike sharing, all powered by a rechargeable solar battery. “As a former engineer at Boeing, I have spent years working on tanks, helicopters, and aircraft,” and “these forms of transportation have made huge leaps in safety and connectivity,” said Velo Labs co-founder Jack Al-Kahwati. “We wanted to take on the challenge of bringing cycling into the future.” The lock is available for pre-order for $159, and is expected to ship in 2015. (Let’s hope production economies bring the price down, but I *want* one of those locks for my bike…h/t to Harpreet Singh)
