The fossil fuel divestment movement is tracking faster than the anti-apartheid divestment campaign of the 1980s, according to a study last year by a group at Oxford University. The latest victory is Stanford University’s May 6 decision to drop its investments in coal. “Moving away from coal in the investment context is a small but constructive step while work continues, at Stanford and elsewhere, to develop broadly viable sustainable energy solutions for the future,” said Stanford President John Hennessy.
